The BIG day

The day finally arrived!!! While we were watching the Super bowl I started having contractions. The contractions were mild and irregular. I had them from about 4:00-10:30 pm. Then they stopped for a few hours. Around 12:30 am on 02-08-2010 I started having contractions that were regular and starting to intensify. But they weren't less than 10 minutes apart so we continued on for hours. At 10:00 am the contractions finally became close enough together to call the Dr. She had us come to her clinic and then we would decide if it was time to head to the hospital.

After all those hours I had only dilated to a 2 and the Dr. did not like how slow the heart of the baby was beating so she had us head to the hospital to monitor the baby's heart during labor. Here is the last picture I have with her inside of me. We had just arrived at the hospital.

After MORE hours of labor the Dr. arrived around 4:00pm and told me I had only dilated to a 4 and she really did not like what the baby's heart was doing during contractions. She said the baby's heart was not responding to the contractions and even at times skipping beats. She told us she really thought it would be best to do a C-section. Those of you who know me well understand how difficult this decision was. We did not want to make a rash decision, so the doctor allowed us to wait another half an hour to see if Callie's heart would start to respond a little better. By this time the contractions were stronger and coming every 2-4 minutes.

After an hour of hard labor and lots of praying, the doctor arrived again. She still did not like how Callie's heart was acting. There was no real change and I was still progressing slowly in the labor process. The doctor felt the best decision was to do a C-section, so we trusted her and God who had all things planned perfectly. Even though it was not our plans. It was God's plan.

After all the trials and hard work Callie was born at 5:45 p.m. What a long day of labor! Our hearts were hurting because we desperately wanted to have a natural child birth, but in our hearts we knew God loved us and wanted the best for us. One thing we wanted was a baby with full head of hair. When the doctors asked Preston to come and watch as they pulled Callie out the first thing he saw was a full head of dark brown hair. The tears began to run down his face as he felt the touch of God in those moments. He does love us always. We love our baby Callie and know you all will also. A happy and healthy baby was born and now we are healing and enjoying the new adventure God has us on. What a great God!!!!
